Giving Back

Helping others is at the core of what I do and is the common thread that bonds every aspect of my life - family, work, play, and philanthropy.   The following are some of the charitable organizations where I have made contributions of both time and financial resources. Check them out.  If you feel so inclined to get involved, I am sure they would love to hear from you.

redcross

American Red Cross - I donate blood every 53 days.  It is painless, does not take that much time and you can save at least 3 lives every time you donate. Plus they give you some really great snacks after you donate!

moveable feast

Moveable Feast cares for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses by preparing and delivering nutritious meals and groceries and providing nutritional counseling and other services. Every year they host a 2 day 140 mile bike Ride called the Ride for the Feast. It is a great event and their largest fund raising event. I have been riding in this event since 2018.

backonfeet

Back on My Feet – Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations by first engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.

shannonsfund

Shannon’s Fund – In 2008, the Orioles and OriolesREACH established Shannon’s Fund, a $50,000 endowment at the University of Maryland Medical Center to provide financial assistance to hospital patients and their families. Created in memory of Shannon Obaker – the team’s Director of Community Outreach who bravely fought cancer for over a year before passing away in 2007 at age 29. Funds are donated to patients and their family members as need arises to assist with the general expenses associated with the treatment process, including hospital parking, alternate housing, food costs and household bills.

theregoeshero

There Goes My Hero – This organization works to find a match for every Leukemia patient and assist their families through a variety of support programs.  Their mission is to restore hope to Leukemia patients and their families through increasing bone marrow registrants, providing nutritious meals, and supporting blood cancer research. I donate time to help expand their bone marrow registry and different events and participate in their Hero-Paloozabike ride in which participants can ride a variety of different mileages to raise funds for this great organization.
