Settled in 1752 when two Pennsylvania brothers, William and Thomas Towson, began farming northeast of present-day York and Joppa Roads, Towson is the County Seat of Baltimore County. Located just inside the Baltimore Beltway and home to Towson University, Towson is a popular suburb just north of the Baltimore City line. Major neighborhoods in Towson include:

Aigburth Manor, Anneslie, Armagh Village, Burkleigh Square, Charlesbrook, Chestnut Hill, East Towson, Fellowship Forest, Gaywood, Goucher Woods, Greenbriar, Hampton, Hunt Crest Estates, Idlewylde, Knettishall, Knollwood-Donnybrook, Loch Raven Village, Riderwood Hills, Ridgely, Rodgers Forge, Southland Hills, Stoneleigh, Towson Estates, Towson Manor, West Towson, Woodbrook Village, Wiltondale, and Yorkleigh. Ruxton, which lies to the west, is sometimes considered a part of Towson.

Towson offers many venues for shopping and entertainment for visitors and residents alike. The Towson Chamber of Commerce, has devoted significant time and efforts to attract a diverse mix of unique shops, restaurants and pubs, concert theater and service oriented businesses to accommodate everyone’s needs. Moreover, the Chamber organizes many of the seasonal events that occur throughout the year, including a Farmers Market, Feet on the Street, and Holiday Festivities. Additionally, Towson is home to several major regional shopping centers including:

  • The Towson Town Center, with over 200 specialty stores, two major department stores – Macy’s and Nordstrom’s and many themed restaurants.
  • Dulaney Plaza Shopping Center provides all of the shops associated with the traditional neighborhood, including supermarket, wines and spirits, florist, hairdresser, furniture, card and gift shop, etc.
  • The shops at Kenilworth is an enclosed mall with two unique anchors, Stebbins Anderson, a hardware and gift store and Joseph A. Banks, a men’s clothing store, as well as many small shops and eateries.
