The name Stoneleigh is certainly appropriate for this Towson neighborhood of individually styled and beautifully constructed homes, many of which feature stucco and stone masonry as primary building materials. Calling the streets “tree-lined” doesn’t do justice to what the planners of this stately neighborhood had in mind, as many of the streets in the community had to be custom built to accommodate the large, old trees that were landscaped when the original mansion house was constructed in the mid-to-late 1800’s. The neighborhood is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and retains much of the charm that its original architects had in mind as a result.
Today, Stoneleigh is a much-desired community located just to the north of the Baltimore City line, making it easily accessible to both downtown Baltimore and Towson, the county seat of Baltimore County. It shares the walkability of other area Towson neighborhoods, such as, Anneslie, Armagh Village, Rodgers Forge, and , West Towson and Wiltondale, and is close to great restaurants, shopping, and other amenities.
Residents flock to the Stoneleigh Community Pool every summer to enjoy the social scene, to cool off, or to compete on the pool’s award winning swim team. As a result of a very engaged community association, there are also year-round fun events, including the Stoneleigh Stampede 5K run through the neighborhood, the Stoneleigh Try-athalon, and an annual community yard sale that is renowned throughout Baltimore County. For kids of all ages, there’s a Halloween Parade and Party each year, and Breakfast with Santa.
