About

fells_pointWhether you’re looking for a tattoo, a great run along the waterfront, a good hoppy ale, some live music, or a great vantage point for the Baltimore skyline, Fell’s Point is a destination neighborhood for all of these, and more, including a quaint farm to table market, known as Fleet Street Market.

Founded in 1730 by William Fell, who was attracted by its beautiful, deep water and proximity to agriculture andthick forests, Fell’s Point became a shipbuilding and commercial center. About 1763, William’s son Edward Fell laid out streets and began selling plots for homes. The town grew quickly, and eventually incorporated with Baltimore Town and Jones Town in 1797 to form the City of Baltimore. The area grew wealthy on the tobacco, flour, and coffee trades through the 18th and 19th centuries.

BTW, there is a split within the neighborhood about whether the signage should be Fell’s Point or Fells Point.  I personally stand on the side of the grammatically correct usage, Fell’s, but I Digress.

With docks for the Baltimore Canoe (and Kayak) Club and a main pick-up point for the Water Taxi, Fell’s Point is centrally located and accessible via walk, bike, boat or car to downtown workplaces, great restaurants and bars, movie theaters and gyms, some fabulous authentic Mexican eateries and grocers, as well high-end grocers, Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles and M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens.  In fact, in 2012, Fells Point was voted one of the Top 10 Great Neighborhoods in America but the American Planning Association, a non-profit organization of community planners.

Take a walk around the cobblestone streets and you’ll be doing a double take – yes, the movie “Sleepless in Seattle” was filmed here as well as the popular 1990’s network police drama Homicide: Life on the Street. And there is plenty of history to take in, as well as the annual beer garden/live music/street fair, the Fell’s Point Fun Festival.
