About

Homes for sale in Parkville are located inside the Baltimore Beltway (I695) and is a Baltimore County neighborhood that was founded when a prominent Baltimore surveyor, Simon Jonas Martenet purchased “35 acres and two rods of land, more or less” at a trustee’s sale in 1874. Named for a plot of land which Martenet donated with the stipulation that it always remain a park (the park is still in existence today – located at the center of present day Taylor Avenue between Oak and Chestnut Avenues), Parkville has become one of Baltimore County’s more popular neighborhoods.

Not many people know that Parkville played a role in this Country’s historic events. The main street of Parkville, Harford Road, served as a thoroughfare for northern and southern colonies, was the road that the first stage coach made as its regular route between Baltimore and Philadelphia, and was used by General George Washington and the Continental Army on their way to Yorktown, the site of epic Battle that ended the Revolutionary War. Now that you learned an interesting fact or two about Parkville, let’s focus on some more current events…

Parkville is home to the oldest cider mill in continuous use in Maryland, Weber’s Farm Cider Mill Farm. In addition to growing fruits and vegetables, Weber’s makes apple cider and sells freshly made bakery products, including their famous cider donuts. They also have throughout the fall including the Johnny Appleseed Birthday Celebration and Fall Harvest Festival Days.

If getting back to nature is your thing, then make sure to visit one of Baltimore County’s best kept secrets, Double Rock Park. Whether you are looking to spend some time alone or with family, Double rock Park, located on Texas Ave, has pavilions, picnic areas, playgrounds, ball fields, restrooms, hiking Trails. One of my fondest childhood memories was of my father taking my sisters and I exploring through the stream which winds through the park and is peppered with large rocks that you can climb on (at your own risk of course).

For those of you interested in Sports (or have children that are) there is the North East Regional Recreation Center, which houses five racquetball courts, four tennis courts, two soccer/lacrosse indoor fields, concession area, restrooms, observation decks. Moreover, the Parkville Recreation council is busy offering every kind of activity from Aerobics to Zumba. And if you just want to relax and have someone wait on you, there are plenty of bars and restaurants – Firehouse Tavern, the Barn, The Bowman, Dead Freedie’s, Magooby’s Joke House, etc. where you can enjoy some of the local fare, spend some time with friends or take in sporting event (always drink responsibly)

Parkville has an active business association that works with government officials, police, local business and residents alike to enhance the quality for both residents and visitors.
